IPA 2008

22Apr08
The International Photography Awards 2008, sponsored by Pilsner Urquell, is the largest and most prestigious photography competition of the year. I have a couple of shots entered in the Discovery of the Year section – wish me luck!

I have started a new series of photos, entitled ‘H2O’.  The series will concentrate on abstract images of water, and starts with three images of water droplets, all with a deep blue hue.  This series is a bit of a break from the norm for me, notably because the series has started with three images that were taken indoors, not outdoors! ;-)  I haven’t decided whether the blue hue will continue throughout the rest of the series, I suppose when I have some more images I’ll play around with the colouring and decide from there.

Uphill

27Jan08

Had quite a successful trip to Uphill beach in Somerset today, managed to get a couple of images that I’m really pleased with.  It also gave me some opportunity to practice my long-exposure shots.  The two images are available to view at Flickr or at my website (where you can also order a print!)

Hi all,

Flickr are featuring three of my images in their ‘Camera Finder’ pages on the Canon EOS 40D, which is pretty amazing considering the wealth of fantastic images that are available to choose from… very cool!

Check out my photostream for the details: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nigeldourley/

I have submitted two photos to JPG magazine for possible inclusion in the next edition… go here http://www.jpgmag.com/people/nigeldourley to check it out (and if you wouldn’t mind voting for the images I would appreciate it!)

Not a lot of new work happening at the moment, the weather isn’t helping (rain and wind). Have had a fresh look at a couple of older shots though, ‘Constellations’ is a favourite… it was taken in November 2007 but it needed some adjustments as I wasn’t happy with the original exposure. As always, check www.nigeldourley.com or www.flickr.com/photos/nigeldourley for updates.

Website

13Jan08

So there I was just playing around with iWeb, looking at different ways of presenting my website, and before you know I’ve ended up re-doing the whole thing! ;-) I’m very pleased with the new site, so it was worth it!

The weather is appalling here at the moment anyway, so there isn’t much chance to get out and about with the camera… hopefully it will get better soon, at least before I decide to start playing with iWeb again, because we all know where that will lead !!! ;-)

Hi all,

I was very pleased (not to mention very humbled) to receive an email today from Steven Churchill, curator of the ‘Art of Photography Show’… a photography exhibition held each year in San Diego. In the email I was invited to submit work for entry in this year’s show, final judging will take place next April, with the exhibition taking place shortly after. I’ve submitted a couple of works (‘Railroad Crossing’ and ‘One Careful Owner’) which hopefully will be good enough to make the final cut… there are prizes available but I think the biggest thrill for me is being invited to submit in the first place! Thanks, Steven ! :-)
